With the shortest day just past and the temperature at minus 7 it reminds us that winter is a special time to catch up with all the small jobs to be done before spring.

Beef Expo was another success for the breed with John Holtís heifer calf coming third in the Queen of Hearts competition out of 22 animals. We had led and unled bulls contesting for the right of Champion animal. This year congratulations must go to Ross & Corrine Kearney winning with their unled bull Okaharau Harry. It shows if you have the right animals entered it can win whether it has a halter or not.

Steak of Origin dinner was well presented and was good to see that we had two members, Phil Hoskin and Kevin McConnell in the top 10 for Producer of the Decade.

I made the effort to go and watch some of the FBNZ Hoof & Hook competition this year. It was amazing watching these young participants working with these animals and learning more about the beef industry Ė it was well worth the visit.

Thanks also must go to our sponsors at Beef Expo for their generosity of product for our prize winners, it is greatly appreciated by our members.

My thanks goes to Geoff & Barb Croker for organising the AGM and Tour this year. It was a lovely two days of viewing cattle and sightseeing in their area.

The Presidentís Trophy was awarded to Phil Hoskin for his wonderful achievement in the Steak of Origin competition last year.

Just remember if you have any news articles for this newsletter, good or bad, please pass them on to Lindy or myself.
