1. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
As 2013 draws to a close & we reflect on the
last 12 months of what we have achieved in
our farming programme; could we have done
more if our meat companies were performing
at a better level with regard to profitability
instead of their excuses of blaming the high
exchange rate of our dollar, markets are weak,
world recession. We have very little say as a
producer except to listen to them on their fat
salaries giving us the political bullshit they
serve up so I hope that members who had
the opportunity to vote did so.
On a better note the Board were very active
in supporting Peter Foss in his re-election to
the PBB Board after the Murray Grey Society
nominated Trevor Clarke to the position in the
recent elections.
PBB have undergone some further
restructuring with the position of Shareholder
& Member Services Manager held by Clinton
Poole, being disestablished. The PBB Board
are currently recruiting for a new General
Manager to take on the role previously held
by Murray Meads & hopefully in the New Year
an appointment will be made.
Tammy Hendra who looked after HerdMASTER
recently resigned & her position has also
been disestablished.
The power of the South Devon yearling cattle
in the spring at auction has been evident
with the prices being affected in both North
& South Island which is very satisfying for
the breed.
At the Canterbury A & P Show on the
Thursday evening, 25 South Devon breeders
& their friends were invited to the Elevate Bar
& Function Centre to sample their entrée of
South Devon meat. This was held upstairs
in the Merlewood Room which Paul made
available to us to enjoy the nibbles & have a
chat. A very enjoyable evening was had by all.
Our very sincere thanks to Paul & Tessa for
their hospitality.
The 2014 AGM is to be held in March in the
East Coast/Gisborne/Hawkes Bay region &
I would encourage all members to attend
& enjoy the programme & fellowship of
members.
Calendars have been a success again so
thanks to those who ordered them.
On behalf of Ann & myself we would like
to extend to all members & their families a
Merry Christmas & a safe & Happy New Year.
Brian Thomson
President
